China heavily invests in buying the ‘USD billion aquatic product’, a concern from the US market.

This year, the aquaculture industry set a target to achieve a production output of 1.4 million tons of shrimp, including 350,000 tons of shrimp and 1.05 million tons of whiteleg shrimp. The export revenue of shrimp is forecast to reach 4-4.3 billion USD. This is an optimistic figure as exports to key markets have recorded impressive results, particularly the Chinese market. Statistics from the Customs Department show that in the first half of 2025, shrimp exports reached over 2 billion USD, an increase of 27% compared to the same period in 2024. Notably, exports of other types of shrimp (including lobster) recorded a remarkable growth of 124%. In terms of market, China (including Hong Kong) has reached the number one position with a turnover of nearly 595 million USD, a sharp increase of 81% compared to the same period.
