Morocco is planning to expand its red fruit export markets by entering China, as confirmed by Mohamed Al Amouri, president of Interproberries Maroc. The country is waiting for Chinese officials to finalize a bilateral agreement on phytosanitary control and certification standards, expected in December, to allow exports to China starting from 2025. Currently, the European Union and the UK account for about 90% of Moroccan red fruit exports in both volume and value. In 2023, China imported over $280.5 million worth of red fruits, primarily blueberries, mainly from Peru and Chile. Morocco's red fruit industry, which generated over $766.8 million in exports in 2023, mainly from blueberries, could benefit significantly from access to the Chinese market, reinforcing Morocco's position as a key player in global agriculture.
