From April, the Observatory of the Argentine Dairy Chain reports a notable 31.1% increase in Chinese dairy product imports in volume, reaching 8,011 million liters of milk equivalent, which marks a 12% rise in dollars compared to the same period last year. The imports have seen consistent growth, with a cumulative annual rate of 9.6% over the past eight years, except for 2015. The imports include a significant rise in casein, cream, blue cheese, and soft cheese, with China being the global leader in whole milk powder imports, primarily sourced from New Zealand. Argentina has experienced a decline in whole milk powder sales to China, with a 68.9% decrease in the first four months of this year, highlighting a potential missed opportunity for Argentina, given its high international price and leading export role in the product.
