In January 2023, Vietnam saw a significant decrease in cassava and cassava product exports, with a 39.4% drop in volume and a 39.3% decrease in value compared to the previous month. The majority of these exports, 94.69%, were to China. Despite this, the price of raw materials and cassava starch has increased due to demand from China. In 2022, China imported 2.2 billion USD worth of tapioca starch, with Thailand being the largest supplier. However, the market share of Vietnamese cassava in China's total cassava imports decreased to 8.2% in 2022, a decrease from 10.04% in 2021.
