China spends US$21 million to import pangasius from Vietnam

Due to a shortage in Mexico, China has had to increase its purchase of pangasius from Vietnam to satisfy the demand for dried fish bladder and fish skin snacks, a luxury delicacy and symbol of wealth in China. These products are priced between US$450 and US$1,000 per kilogram. Twelve Vietnamese companies are currently supplying the product, however, Vietnam's ability to export these raw materials is constrained by a domestic shortage.
