China imported 21 million USD worth of pangasius maw from Vietnam by the end of August, making it the largest buyer of the product, with a total export turnover of 58 million USD reached by the end of August 2024. The product, which includes dried fish maw and fish skin snacks, is popular both as a delicacy and a symbol of wealth in China. The price range for fish maw in China is US$450 to US$1,000 per kilogram. Due to supply shortages from Mexico, China has increased its purchases of pangasius maw from Vietnam, with 12 Vietnamese companies supplying the product. However, Vietnam's potential for exporting dried fish bladder is limited by a lack of input materials.
