China's pork production rose by 4.6% in 2022, reaching 55.41 million tons, as the number of pigs sent for slaughter increased by 4.3% to 700 million, according to the National Bureau of Statistics of China. Despite this, the country's pork imports fell by 53% to 1.76 million tons in 2022, or by 42% when considering offal, before seeing a steady increase in imports to 200 thousand tons in December. Experts predict that China's record pork imports will continue to decline, which is expected to have a positive effect on the global meat market by reducing prices.
