The Ministry of Commerce of China has initiated an anti-subsidy investigation into EU dairy subsidies, prompted by the Dairy Association of China and the China Dairy Industry Association. The investigation will focus on subsidies received by EU dairy products from April 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024, and will cover products such as fresh cheese, processed cheese, blue cheese, milk, and cream. This action is in response to an application that alleges EU dairy products are harming China's domestic dairy industry, with the period of investigation being four years from 2020 to 2024. The European Commission has acknowledged the initiation of the investigation and has pledged to defend the interests of the EU dairy industry and the Common Agricultural Policy. This development is part of escalating trade tensions between China and the EU, with similar investigations ongoing regarding Chinese subsidies in the electric vehicle industry and EU pork products.
