China's decision to resume chicken imports has immediate effect, say ministries

The Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed, in a joint statement, that China has lifted the restrictions imposed on Brazilian chicken exports. "The decision, effective immediately, was made based on the results of the risk analysis conducted by the Chinese authorities," the ministries informed. In the statement, the ministries recalled that Brazil is the largest exporter of chicken meat in the world, accounting for about 35% of the global market. Brazilian exports of poultry products to China had been suspended since May 16, when a case of avian influenza was recorded in a commercial flock in Montenegro, Rio Grande do Sul, as provided for by the bilateral sanitary protocol agreed upon between the countries.
