China's grain production sees growth in 2024

China's total grain output is expected to reach 706.5 million tonnes in 2024, up 1.6 percent from the previous year, according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics. The survey covered all 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities in China, providing a comprehensive analysis of crop area, yield per hectare and total output. The total area under grain cultivation reached 119.319 million hectares, up 351,000 hectares (0.3 percent) from 2023. Of this area, cereal grains such as rice, wheat, corn, millet, sorghum, barley, oats and buckwheat accounted for 100.458 million hectares, up 532,000 hectares, or 0.5 percent. The average grain yield was 5,921 kg per hectare, representing an increase of 75.8 kg/hectare (1.3%) compared to the previous year.
