Cherry apples, also known as red flower apples, have gained popularity in Vietnam due to their unique size and long stem. Originating mainly from China, but labeled as imports from Korea and Australia, these apples are marketed for their quality and high price. Despite the majority being sourced from China, retailers label them as Korean or Australian to increase sales. Vietnam imports a variety of apples from China, with cherry apples and jujubes being the most expensive. In the first seven months of the year, Vietnam spent over $480 million on fruit and vegetable imports from China, nearly 30% more than the previous year, with apples being the top import. The Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association is focusing on tightening plant quarantine regulations to ensure food safety as agricultural trade with China continues to grow.
