Despite being banned by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam, crayfish, also known as red lobster, are still publicly sold online in the country. The price per kilogram ranges from 300,000 - 400,000 VND. The species, originally from China and America, is considered an invasive alien species and its consumption and trade are found to violate the law on biodiversity and fisheries. The ministry has ordered authorities to increase inspection and strictly penalize violators. The penalty for illegally importing or distributing invasive alien animals and plants can include a fine from 100 million VND to 1 billion VND, non-custodial reform for up to three years, or imprisonment for one to five years.
