Yunnan province in China has emerged as a major hub for macadamia nut plantations, with the area under cultivation expanding to over 250,000 hectares. This makes it the world's largest macadamia cultivation region, with a production capacity expected to reach 50,000 tons in 2022. The initiative, backed by the local government, aims to reduce China's reliance on imports and create job opportunities for ethnic minorities. The first macadamia plantings in China were introduced in the 1980s, and the cultivation has seen significant advancements, leading to increased domestic consumption and international market expansion.
