Burundi has seen a significant increase in rice production thanks to the introduction of eight hybrid rice varieties from China. This has raised yield from 3-4 tons per hectare to 9-10 tons, helping to mitigate hunger and malnutrition in the country. This is part of broader collaboration between Burundi and China, which has also seen the deployment of agricultural experts to share practical agricultural technology and train local professionals. Despite challenges such as weak infrastructure and plant diseases, progress has been made in improving well-being and promoting sustainable agricultural development in Burundi, with ongoing cooperation covering areas like agricultural machinery, livestock vaccine promotion, and bean and fruit cultivation.
