China has approved the import of fresh citrus fruits, including oranges, mandarins, and sweet lemons, from Iran. However, these fruits must meet the phytosanitary protocols agreed between the two countries to prevent the spread of pests. Iran is one of the largest producers of fruits and nuts in the Middle East and North Africa, and this move could significantly boost its agricultural exports to China, which currently stand at about $500,000 annually. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the General Administration of Customs of China has been announcing new fresh fruit approvals, recently allowing imports from Zimbabwe, Ecuador, Vietnam, Egypt, and Indonesia.
