The World Citrus Organization (WCO) has released a forecast predicting a 1% decrease in Northern Hemisphere citrus production for the 2020-2021 season, totaling over 28.7 million tonnes. The decrease is attributed to alternation patterns in some countries and droughts in several production areas. The forecast also anticipates a decrease in the production of oranges, lemons, and grapefruits, while sweet citrus production is expected to rise by 5%. European production is projected to increase, particularly in Italy and Spain, while the southern shore of the Mediterranean is expected to see a decrease in production, with the exception of Morocco and Tunisia. US production is predicted to drop by 9%.
