Brazil: CNA calls for investigation into dumping of powdered milk from Argentina

The Brazilian Agriculture and Livestock Confederation (CNA) reported that, last week, it filed a petition to investigate the practice of dumping – selling at prices below the cost of production – against powdered milk from Argentina. According to the CNA, the purpose of the request submitted to the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (MDIC) is to correct the distortions brought about by the application of Argentina's subsidies to milk production throughout 2023. “Despite the prevalence of the free market, Argentina, the main country of origin, responsible for half of the volume, applied direct subsidies to milk production, generating artificiality in prices and unfair competition with the Brazilian product”, states the technical advisor at National Dairy Cattle Farming Commission, Guilherme Dias.
