Cold hits greenhouses in Turkey; prices are expected to increase

Turkey’s greenhouse production center Antalya has recently experienced a serious decrease in product yield due to reasons such as cold weather, rain, floods and storms. While prices have doubled for some products, the amount of produce entering the market has almost halved. Antalya Wholesale Market Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Commissioners Association President Nevzat Akcan complained about the weather conditions, stating that there was a stagnation in the wholesale market in Antalya, Turkey’s winter vegetable production center, before the New Year. Stating that yields had decreased due to the continuous rainfall and the early cold this year, Akcan said, “The amount of product collected in greenhouses has decreased significantly these days. This has also been reflected in the prices. In other words, it is not because we found a market and exported or sold products somewhere.
