Colombian dairy producers seek advances in Brazilian bovine genetics

Recognized worldwide for its excellence in cattle genetics for milk production in tropical regions, Brazil has attracted the attention of Colombian producers. A group of 40 members of Colanta, the largest dairy cooperative in Colombia, visited ABS, the largest biotechnology center in the world, located in Uberaba (MG). The cooperative collects 2,300,000 liters of milk from 7,800 farms every day. Oscar Martínez, director of Colanta, emphasized the importance of direct knowledge about the genetics used on the farms. “It is essential that our producers understand that the genetics offered by the cooperative are constantly improved and selected according to the needs of each one, in addition to the demands of the industry, which seeks quality and productivity.
