In the first four months of 2024, Colombia has seen a significant growth in its fresh fruit exports, with Hass avocados, Tahiti lemons, gulupa, cape gooseberries, and mangoes being the primary drivers of this increase. The geographical characteristics of the country enable year-round crop production, making it more competitive globally. However, the sector faces challenges such as increased internal transportation rates, rising port costs, high internal handling costs, and new certification requirements from destination markets. Despite these challenges, exports to countries like the Netherlands, the United States, Belgium, the United Kingdom, and Spain have seen positive trends. Antioquia, the leading department in fresh fruit production, has experienced a 60% increase in exports, while Belgium has seen a 233% growth in imports of Colombian fruits.
