Zimbabwe has planted 121,000 hectares of wheat, expecting to harvest over 600,000 tonnes, which is more than double the previous record and enough to support the country's traditional food requirements. The crop is in good condition, with early planted wheat at the vegetative stage and late plantings germinating. Farmers are advised on best practices to ensure a successful harvest. Additionally, 6,449 hectares of barley, primarily for malting and brewing, have also been planted. The agriculture energy taskforce is working to ensure sufficient electricity and water for irrigation, and seed distribution is ongoing with 15,000 tonnes already distributed.
