Nigeria is facing a high demand for wheat due to population growth and increased feed grains requirements, with the country producing only 2.06% of the total amount of wheat consumed between 2010 and 2020. The government is encouraging increased domestic production to reduce reliance on imports and is working on strategic investments and programs to make wheat farming attractive and competitive. The Flour Milling Association of Nigeria is providing loans and training to farmers to boost output and reduce production cost. The head of the Wheat Development Programme stated that the association would provide free training to farmers on modern farming methods and off-take all wheat grain meeting basic quality standards.
