A recent market report by AMI highlights a significant increase in the prices of various vegetables, including red peppers and cauliflower, in Germany and the Netherlands, attributed mainly to a decrease in harvest quantities in Spain. The lower temperatures in January have caused a delay in the pepper harvest and a reduction in cauliflower yields by 30 to 40 percent. As a result, wholesale prices for red peppers have surged by approximately 40 percent, reaching over 3 euros per kilo, and cauliflower prices have doubled or tripled compared to last year, reaching around 3 euros per head in supermarkets. However, market analysts remain hopeful that improved weather conditions will lead to a recovery in vegetable production and supply from Spain, which is expected to lower consumer prices back to last year's levels.
