[Reporter Lee Jang-hee, Korea Farmers and Fishermen Newspaper] Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education is pushing for a low-cost bidding of agricultural and aquatic products for school meals to reduce costs, causing strong opposition from the local agricultural and educational communities. Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education sent a notice on July 24 to schools in the province regarding the "Improvement Plan for the Business Processing Method of Purchasing Ingredients for School Meals," announcing that it will be implemented from October. This policy is being implemented because starting next year, the provincial office will fully cover the personnel costs borne by cities and counties in school meal expenses, and considering factors such as the inflation rate, an additional financial burden of over 200 billion won is expected, necessitating cost savings. This is as cities and counties cite deteriorating finances as a reason.
