Corn exports fall by 65% in Maranhão

The National Supply Company (Conab) reported in the September edition of the Logistics Bulletin, released on Monday (29), that cargo transportation in Maranhão in August was marked by the soybean off-season, which harms offers of road freight to the Port of Itaqui and to the Porto Franco Railway Terminal. On the other hand, the corn harvest resulted in a strong insertion of the grain in the south of the state, mainly for the Inpasa ethanol biorefinery, in Balsas. "With shorter distances, freight prices presented a level reduction," recorded in the bulletin. The unit processed up to two million tons of corn and sorghum for the production of ethanol, DDGS, and vegetable oil, altering the destination of local production and reducing the flow of exports through Itaqui.
