Ecuador is paying more for corn due to higher international costs. The price is above the set minimum support price of $15.57, reaching $17.50. This situation is a result of law that adopts international prices. A group of corn producers recently protested, requesting a halt on corn imports, which was done according to a 2022 study. The Ministry of Agriculture has confirmed that only the agreed amount of corn has been imported. Producers are set to meet with authorities to discuss issues such as product pricing.
