Corn is one of the pillars of the agribusiness in Paraná. Its economic and strategic importance — both in supplying feed for animal protein chains and in supplying new industries — places the cereal at the center of a challenge: it is necessary to increase the supply. The issue was widely discussed at the 18th National Safrinha Corn Seminar, held between September 9 and 11 in Londrina. During the event, researchers and extension agents from IDR-Paraná (Paraná Rural Development Institute — Iapar-Emater) presented diagnoses, technical data, and possible paths to increase production in a sustainable manner. With around 3 million hectares cultivated and 20 million tons harvested in the last crop, corn accounts for, directly or indirectly, more than 40% of the value generated by the agribusiness in Paraná. “It is the main input for the poultry, swine, milk, fish, and even fertile eggs chains.
