The June acreage report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) indicates significant changes in Arkansas crop planting, with cotton acres reaching a decade high and corn acres dropping sharply. Overall, Arkansas's principle crop acreage decreased by 0.8% to 7.156 million acres, while U.S. total planted acreage fell by 1.4% to 315 billion acres. Soybean acres in Arkansas increased slightly, though NASS reduced the state's soybean acreage from March intentions. Rice acres declined, and peanut acres remained unchanged. The report attributes these shifts to lower grain prices, wet planting conditions, and a shortage of long-grain rice seed. Additionally, winter wheat acres in Arkansas saw a significant decline, mirroring a national trend.
