The International Committee of the Red Cross has highlighted that over 345 million people in Africa, with a focus on Sudan, Ethiopia, and South Africa, are facing severe food insecurity. Other countries like Burkina Faso, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Cameroon, Kenya, Mauritania, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Somalia, and Chad are also struggling with food shortages. The UN is seeking $426 million to prevent a food disaster in South Sudan. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations warns that the conflict in Ukraine could increase the global number of hungry people by 11-19 million in 2022-2023, particularly affecting the Middle East and North Africa, which heavily depend on Ukrainian grain imports.
