Covid-19 causes low starch potato prices in Poland

Potato producers are complaining about the low prices offered to them by potato starch plants. In the current season, they are about 10 percent. lower than in the 2019/2020 season. At the same time, the prices of edible potatoes in wholesale are significantly higher than those of starch potatoes (approx. PLN 0.60 / kg), which may additionally cause dissatisfaction of their producers. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, one of the reasons for the low prices of starch potatoes this season is the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. The starch industry plants in Poland still have stocks of unsold goods produced last season.
