Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, North Sumatra's cardamom exports have seen a significant increase of 54.2% in the first half of 2020 compared to the same period in 2019. The total export volume reached 171 tons, valued at Rp12 billion, surpassing the 2019 exports of 168 tons worth Rp 8.2 billion. Vietnam, Thailand, and China are the main importers of North Sumatra's cardamom. The Ministry of Agriculture is encouraging spice farmers to improve crop cultivation and is optimistic about achieving its goal of tripling agricultural commodity exports within five years.
