In 2020, Peru's citrus exports experienced a 37% increase in value, reaching a historical high of 244,783 tons worth US $ 262 million, as reported by the Institute for Research and Development of Foreign Trade of the Lima Chamber of Commerce (Idexcam). This growth is attributed to the rising global demand for citrus, especially mandarins, due to their antioxidant properties and vitamin C content, which are particularly beneficial during the COVID-19 pandemic. The United States emerged as the primary market for Peruvian mandarins, witnessing a 52% growth, followed by the Netherlands, Canada, China, and Russia. Oranges also saw a 46% increase in exports. The production of mandarins and oranges in Peru has been on a steady rise since 2010, with mandarins producing 525,000 tons and oranges producing 553,000 tons in 2020.
