The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR-SARI) in Ghana has developed a new climate-smart and high-yielding Cowpea variety, to be released in the 2025/26 farming season. The variety, SARI-tuya, is nutrient-rich, drought-tolerant, and resistant to striga and diseases. It cooks quickly, has a yield potential of 2200 Kg/ha, and takes only 71 days to reach maturity. Farmers in Northern Ghana are encouraged to adopt this variety to increase production, improve profitability, and enhance food security. The development of this variety was funded by the Bills and Melinda Gates Foundation through the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture.
