Germany: Cultivation and harvest of edible mushrooms in Thuringia

03/18/2022 | 12:02:00 | ID: 32610 | Department: Agriculture | plant Erfurt (agrar-PR) - As reported by the Thuringian State Office for Statistics, the Thuringian companies, each of which had a minimum area of 1,000 square meters, managed a production area for edible mushrooms of around 35,000 square meters in 2021. Through multiple use of these areas, in 2021 around 2,900 tons of edible mushrooms are produced on a total of 145,000 square meters. In addition to mushrooms, shiitake and oyster mushrooms were also cultivated. All farms were managed exclusively conventionally. With a pack size of 250 grams, every Thuringian household had 11 bowls of cultivated mushrooms from local production last year. Of this, 81,100 tons or 97 percent was used for the production of mushrooms. Thuringia's share of the total German edible mushroom production was 3 percent.
