Manual harvesting has started in Şanlıurfa, Turkey, which accounts for 30% of the nation's cumin production. Farmers are pleased with the high productivity, yielding 3,500 tons of cumin from 50 thousand decares. Enhanced irrigation from the Southeastern Anatolia Project (GAP) and favorable rainfall have boosted crop yields. Şanlıurfa's Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry, Mehmet Aksoy, emphasized cumin's economic benefits across various industries. Farmer Mehmet Türk highlighted cumin's higher profitability compared to wheat and barley, promoting the cultivation of alternative crops and increasing exports.
