REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Director General of Customs and Excise Djaka Budhi Utama asserted that he never granted permission for the entry of 250 tons of illegal imported rice through Sabang, Aceh. "We certainly do not permit illegal rice imports. That's why when the goods entered, they were immediately sealed," said Djaka after attending a Public Hearing (RDP) with Commission XI of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia in Jakarta, Monday (24/11/2025). Djaka explained that the import had previously received permission from the Free Trade Zone and Free Port Business Agency (BPKS) Sabang. However, as long as there was no approval from the central government, Customs was tasked with ensuring that the rice did not circulate among the public. "If the rice was allowed by BPKS Sabang, yes.
