The General Directorate of Customs in Argentina has set reference values for the export of garlic, ranging from 50 cents to US $ 1.84 FOB per kilogram, depending on the variety and size. The values are intended to safeguard tax revenues and will be used as a first control to detect deviations in declarations. The values may need to be updated regularly to reflect market reality. The garlic export duties, which were expected to pay, are currently exempt from January 1, 2021. The established values are considered reasonable by experts and are expected to allow exporters to have a certain margin in seasons when the price is depressed. The introduction of these reference values is expected to have no significant impact on exporters, but future fluctuations in the international market are anticipated.
