The Philippines' Department of Agriculture (DA) has approved the importation of over 8,000 metric tons of frozen small pelagic fish, such as round scad and mackerel, to address the impact of recent storms on the local fish supply. This additional importation follows a previously approved 30,000-metric-ton volume intended for wet markets during the closed-fishing season in major fish spawning areas. A portion of the imported fish will be allocated for the KADIWA ng Pangulo centers, providing an affordable source of protein for vulnerable sectors like indigents, persons with disabilities, and senior citizens.
