(Seoul=Yonhap News) = Daedong [000490] is introducing precision agriculture to the Saemangeum Integrated Grain Specialized Production Complex in Gimje, North Jeolla Province.
Daedong announced on the 20th that it will pursue cooperation for collecting precision agriculture data and solution advancement for up to 10 years with Hanmaeum Agricultural Cooperative and Songju Agricultural Cooperative, which were selected as business operators in the Korea Rural Community Corporation's Saemangeum Project Unit's integrated grain specialized production complex rental competition.
Starting next month, the agricultural land will be 376ha (1.14 million pyeong), equivalent to the size of 526 soccer fields. Crops to be cultivated on this farmland include basic food crops such as wheat, soybeans, and corn, which have high import dependency.
Daedong plans to apply precision agriculture solutions such as soil analysis-based custom fertilizer prescriptions, drone and satellite growth monitoring-based variable fertilizer spraying, autonomous agricultural machinery work data collection, and customized growth solution development using growth data, while also advancing related technologies.
In addition to precision agriculture, Daedong aims to introduce autonomous agricultural machinery, smart work equipment, and agricultural robots currently under development to secure various agricultural data and use this as a basis for advancing AI agricultural technology and domestic distribution.
Lee Gwang-wook, Head of Daedong's Domestic Business Division, said, "The official incorporation of precision agriculture as a key evaluation criterion for the Saemangeum rental project is proof that the government recognizes the necessity and importance of precision agriculture distribution," and "Through the Saemangeum project, we will demonstrate the effectiveness of precision agriculture solutions for basic food crops and lay the groundwork for nationwide expansion."
