(Damyang=Yonhap News) Reporter Park Cheol-hong = On the 15th, Damyang County in Jeonnam announced that the crowdfunding project to protect the "Damyang Bamboo Grove," a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System (GIAHS) and the 4th National Important Agricultural Heritage, achieved 156% (approximately 4.69 million won) of its target amount.
The Damyang Bamboo Grove, which was designated as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage in 2020 due to its high ecological value and unique landscape, is facing difficulties in preservation due to the aging of the rural population and the risk of regional extinction, which has led to a sharp decline in management personnel.
In response, Damyang County promoted crowdfunding as an alternative for local and urban residents to participate in the preservation activities of the bamboo grove, and plans to use the raised funds to establish walking trails, among other initiatives.
On the 11th, a farm party was held at the bamboo grove in Naedama Village, Damyang Town, to celebrate the success of the crowdfunding, inviting around 30 supporters.
Representative Yoon Jae-hwi of "Great Damyang Bamboo Grove" said, "Through this farm party, we confirmed the possibility of preserving the bamboo grove together with urban residents" and "We will continue to strive for the sustainable preservation of the bamboo grove."
