Since 2018, African Swine Fever (ASF) has posed a significant challenge for global pig producers, impacting more than 35 countries, excluding Thailand. Thai authorities, led by the Department of Livestock Development, have been implementing preventive measures to safeguard their pork industry. The department has made efforts to develop a strategy, enhance surveillance, and adopt advanced technologies. Despite the economic benefits from increased pork exports and production in 2020, the threat of ASF remains. The article outlines the challenges and the department's responses to the disease, noting the importance of ongoing strategic reviews and the need for continued vigilance to mitigate the economic and production impacts on the sector.
