The Indonesian state-owned fisheries company, Perum Perindo, has secured a significant order for 150,000 kilograms of mackerel from Thailand, to be delivered in four installments by the end of May 2021. This move comes as Thailand looks to shift its mackerel imports from India due to Covid-19 concerns affecting fish quality. Despite initial supply shortages in early 2021 due to uncertain weather, the mackerel market in Indonesia has since stabilized, with the fish being praised for its nutritional benefits and affordability. This transaction is expected to generate revenue of US $ 328,560 for Perum Perindo. Indonesia is a leading exporter of fishery products, with total exports reaching US $ 5.2 billion in 2020, primarily from consumption fish.
