The Department of Rural Economy (Deral) has predicted a recovery in the production of key crops in Paraná for the 2024/25 harvest season, including soybeans, corn, beans, and potatoes, while wheat is expected to see a reduction. Soybean planting is projected to increase by 0.5%, occupying over 90% of the main grain planting areas in Paraná. Corn planting is expected to decrease, becoming a niche crop due to its lower profitability compared to soybeans. Bean planting is set to increase by 22%, driven by a new export option for black beans. Potato planting is already underway, with an expected 22% increase in production. Wheat from the 2023/24 harvest is experiencing a 14% reduction due to drought, with barley yielding 19% more than last year despite the weather challenges. The Agricultural Situation Bulletin for the week of August 23 to 29 provides an overview of these developments and offers data on other agricultural crops in the state.
