Dr. Salah Moselhy, head of the Lakes Development and Fish Resources Authority, announced that the European Union has approved the resumption of Egyptian fish exports from natural and marine fisheries after a two-year hiatus, following a positive inspection report from the European Commission. Negotiations are ongoing for the export of fish from private and civil farms. Over the past two years, Egypt has improved control over fish farms, reduced pollution, and trained workers to meet EU health and environmental standards. The resumption of exports is expected to generate $30 million annually. Egypt, a leading fish producer, ranks fourth globally in fish farming and first in Africa, with a production of 2.3 million tons, aiming to increase to 3 million tons. In 2022, Egypt's fish exports were valued at $54.5 million.
