The innovation of indigenous sesame wheat, which has been cultivated in the Gyeongnam region for a long time, is attracting attention. The Gyeongnam Agricultural Research and Extension Services (Director Jeong Chan-sik) announced on the 17th that it has applied for varietal protection for three new varieties, ‘Gwansil’, ‘Danya’, and ‘Deulchan’, which were cultivated through several years of selection, characteristic evaluation, and genetic analysis of indigenous sesame wheat cultivated in Jinju-si and Goseong-gun since 2014. ‘Gwansil’ has long ears and many grains, so it has excellent yield. ‘Danya’ has short ears and high protein content. ‘Deulchan’ is short, so ears come out quickly, allowing for quick harvest, and its yield is also high.
