Chilean researcher Cristián Balbontín will present a vaccine for cherry splitting at the International Cherry Conference due to unexpected rains. The virtual conference, organized by the Portuguese University of Trás-os-Montes and Upper Douro, aims to promote competitive and sustainable agriculture. Balbontín's research focuses on the effect of hormones abscisic acid and methyl jasmonate on cherry cracking, a problem affecting up to 80% of fruits when rain falls during the ripening stage. His findings suggest that early application of these hormones can reduce damage by up to 80%.
