Hungary is dedicated to the breeding of horses primarily for sports, tourism, and traditional activities, with a focus on producing horses for specific equestrian disciplines. The industry attracts a large number of young people due to vocational training and higher education opportunities. However, the sector needs improvement in education to meet labor market demands. The most popular horse breeding discipline is show jumping, with Hungarian and foreign breeds dominating. There's potential for environmental applications in forestry. Despite horse meat being a healthy and tasty alternative to beef, it is not commonly consumed in Hungary due to a lack of cultural tradition. However, the country is involved in the slaughter horse trade, exporting horses, especially in high-quality and well-trained ones can command a high price. The National Association of Hungarian Horse Breeders is advancing IT development, including a horse search engine to provide pedigree horse data from the National Food Chain Safety Office.
