Vietnam's dragon fruit cultivation area has shrunk due to the Covid-19 pandemic and China's Net Zero policy, with a decrease of 1,500 hectares in 2021 and 9,200 hectares in 2022 compared to 2020. Despite this, Vietnam's dragon fruit export value has increased, surpassing 1 billion USD from 2017 to 2020. However, China's dragon fruit cultivation surpassed Vietnam's in 2021, affecting Vietnam's market advantage. Meanwhile, Binh Thuan, a major dragon fruit producing province in Vietnam, has implemented growing area codes and packaging facilities to ensure food safety and quality, and is focusing on expanding the market, especially domestically.
