South Korea: Domestically produced hot air hay to be supplied to horse breeding farms starting next year

Domestic Italian ryegrass (IRG) hot air hay is expected to be distributed to horse farms in the Jeonbuk and Gyeongbuk regions as early as next year. It is expected that the green light will be turned on for horse farm management. On November 29, the National Institute of Animal Science, Rural Development Administration, and the Korea Racing Authority held a ‘Symposium on Expanding Domestic Hot Air Hay Horse Industry Use’ at the Iksan Public Riding Stable in Jeonbuk. Domestic hot air hay refers to hay that has been dried on site to have a moisture content of 30-50%, then collected and lowered to less than 20% using hot air indoors. According to the Korea Livestock Research Institute, the estimated distribution price of domestic hot air hay is KRW 437 per kg of IRG, which is 22-37% cheaper than imported hay (timothy).
