Dragon fruit cultivation is of interest to Almería greenhouse growers due to its high profit margins and potential to diversify fruit and vegetable supplies. Originating in Central America, the crop requires protection from summer radiation and is currently under trial cultivation in 2012 by the agricultural credit institution, Cajamar, in collaboration with various institutions and producer organizations. The trial aims to evaluate the economic feasibility and potential yields of the crop, with initial results suggesting higher yields in El Ejido. The success of dragon fruit cultivation will depend on solving various challenges such as varieties, cultivation methods, climate control, and marketing.
